What is ECO?
ECO is the Energy Companies Obligation. The "big 6" energy suppliers are required to fund energy efficent measures into domestic properties. The funding can depend upon the geaographivcal area that your property is in, or whether the occupier is receiving certain qualifying benefits, such as Child Tax Credits, or Pension Credit etc.
What measures does ECO include?
ECO can fund cavity wall loft and loft insulation, boiler replacements, draughtproofing etc.
Why is an EPC required?
EPC is used to assess your property, as it is now. This allows the ECO installer to then calculate the difference that the measure will make to your property, and therefore the amount of funding that may be available from the energy supplier. Generally, things like loft and cavity wall insulation are fully funded, and therefore "free" to the occupier, but more expensive measures such as boilers may require a contribution towards the cost. That said, it can be a very effective way of getting a large propertion of your boiler replacement paid for.
How do I find out more about ECO?
We work with a number of ECO suppliers and installers, so if you are interested in a particular measure, please call us, and we can give you some more information.
How much will it cost?
Normally the ECO supplier or installer will pay for the cost of the EPC assessment.
